Inflammation can occur throughout the body from various triggers. Inflammation is the body’s way to fight against infection or injury and can also occur because of cigarette smoking and a person’s diet. Diets high in saturated and trans-fat can cause inflammation in a person’s body. Inflammation in the body can cause everything from swollen joints to organ damage and diabetes. Studies have shown that increasing healthy oils into your diet can decrease inflammation throughout the body.

Olive Oil

Olive oil in your diet is one way to reduce inflammation. This natural oil contains monounsaturated fats, these fats allow for the good cholesterol to stay balanced but inflammationlowers bad cholesterol at the same time.  Olive Oil is rich in omega-9 and olecanthal, both which reduce inflammation.  This oil not only has anti- inflammatory agents but also does not contribute to inflammation like vegetable oil. Other healthy oils to add into your diet include avocado oil and grapeseed oil. Olive oil not only decreases inflammation in the body but can aid in weight loss, decrease chances of diabetes, and even possibly reduce chances of cancer.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential in maintaining overall good health. These fatty acids not only necessary for brain development but also can reduce inflammation within the body. Reducing this inflammation can lead to a decrease in arthritis, cancer and heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids are found mostly in certain types of fish, fish oil, and krill oil supplements. These oils can help keep your Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio balanced. In today’s modern society diets tend to have higher amounts of Omega-6 fatty acid which can increase inflammation throughout the body. Diets high in carbohydrates and saturated fats tend to have a higher Omega-6 level.  Other foods high in Omega-3 fatty acids include grass fed animals, flax seeds, and walnuts.

Essential Oils

While changing your diet and increasing your fish and olive oil consumption can reduce inflammation using essential oils can also help. Essential oils can reach tissues and the blood stream once applied to the skin in a matter of minutes.  Essential oils containing carvacrol can naturally reduce inflammation. Some oils that contain this include Oregano and Thyme.

Essential oils can also aid in reducing inflammation by helping with inflammation triggers. Sleep deprivation, anxiety, and increasing the immune system can all be positively influenced with essential oils.

Olive oil, fish oil, and essential oils can all contribute to a healthier lifestyle by reducing inflammation.  Being conscience of what is consumed on a daily basis can lead to a better Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio and can reduce inflammation. This reduction can only aid in a healthier lifestyle and decrease the risk of long term diseases and cancers.
